Here are some pictures from the Haberman's "Make It Work" Contest... I had a great time and my model Catherine was so beautiful!!!!

Tuesday, August 01, 2006

So I didn't win the "MAKE IT WORK" Contest, but I'm not upset about it... A great friend of mine, won Sarah Lapinski... Congrats! What amazing talent we have here in Detroit... I was so excited to see what the other designers would create, because at heart I would love to be a fashion editor... Anna Wintour, Nina Garcia, and Carine Roitfeld beware... I want your job when I retire from designing...

I have a lot of things now to focus on... My Spring 2007 collection and grand opening of the Detroit Fashion Incubator... October 2006

DFI will serve as a showroom and a resource center for designers based in the Metro Detroit area and abroad. Our responsiblity will be to represent those selected clothing lines in our showroom and at trade shows to boutiques & department stores...

If you're interested please send an email to info@detroitfashionincubator.com

My very good friend of 11yrs, Shalika is getting married on August 19th... Congrats!!! I'm working today on a dress for her bridal shower this saturday... Her bridal showers theme is "Breakfast At Tiffany's". One of my all time favorite movies. I'm creating a cocktail dress inspired by one of the greatest actresses, Audrey Hepburn. This movie inspired a million versions of the LBD or little black dress... I decided to do something different for my friend... Her guests have to wear black dresses, but to make Shalika stand out we decided to use that classic blue that every girl who loves baubles knows, that Tiffany's Blue...

We did a muslin fitting on Tuesday and she was so excited about her garment... I was happy that it pleased her, because weddings and all the things that go along with planning a wedding can be very stressful. So, I wanted it to be perfect and exactly what she wanted. I feel like I'm making her wedding dress... Maybe my next challenge will be bridal... (just joking ::: no bridzilla's)

So, I have to finish her dress by 7 tonight because I'm heading to NYC in the morning and her bridal shower is Saturday... I'm so excited about going to NYC. I'm going to purchase fabric for my Spring 2007 collection and see what's new for Fall 2007. I always love going to source fabrics and being in NYC always inspires me creatively. The energy of the city and that fast paced lifestyle just feeds the mind to create... I love NYC, but I couldn't live full-time there... I like big cities and Detroit is a big city, but we are apart of that laid back midwestern lifestyle... I've toyed with the idea of moving to NYC many times over the years.. Especially when I was 18.. I told myself if Madonna could move there with less than $100, so could I... Now at 25, I know better. But when you are determined to be successful you can make anything happen. Money is necessary, but the drive, determination, and passion are the more important things...

So, I'm a finalist in the "Make It Work" contest at Haberman Fabrics....

Here is the Challenge
"Your girlfriend is a television reporter who will be covering the 36th Annual Fash Bash® DIA fundraiser on August 27. A Tahari fashion show is featured in the gala evening. Your friend wants you to make her dress or ensemble. Her look is upscale and stylish, but her limited budget makes this a creative challenge for you."
